Halloween might be one of my favorite holidays. I absolutely LOVE dressing up and making fun and spooky recipes- it makes me feel like a kid again! This year, I’m partnering with King’s Hawaiian to bring you the spookiest and tastiest Hallowaiian dessert recipe ever! Do you think those delicious King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls are only good on their own and not to make fun treats with? Wrong! King’s Hawaiian Rolls is the perfect addition to add a delicious sweet layer to this trifle that kicks it up a notch. This trifle is perfect for a Halloween party and will be sure to feed monstrous appetites. I can’t wait for you ghouls to try this recipe.
King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
Crushed chocolate Sandwich Cookies
Candy eyes in different shapes
Chocolate jimmies sprinkles
Pudding:
4 cups whole milk
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1 1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup corn starch
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Neon Green Food Coloring
Whipped Cream:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
Neon Purple Food Coloring
In a heavy bottom pan over medium high heat add in the whole milk, sugar, whole eggs, egg yolks, corn starch, and salt. Whisk until completely combined
Let it simmer, whisking very often, about 6-8 minutes until thick
Turn the heat off and add in the butter, vanilla extract, and a good amount of neon green food coloring. Whisk until the butter has melted completely
Pour the pudding into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap so that the plastic wrap is touching the pudding. This helps to prevent a film forming on the pudding
Let it cool completely and put into the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours
Once the pudding is ready make the whipped cream by whisking the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and neon bright purple food coloring with an electric mixer
Now its time to assemble!
In a trifle dish tear apart about 3 King’s Hawaiian Rolls to make a layer on the bottom
Add a handful of crushed chocolate sandwich cookies over the King’s Hawaiian Rolls
Ladle the pudding over the rolls forming a nice layer
Add the candy eye balls against the glass so it looks like they’re looking out. You can add as many as you’d like
To the top of the green pudding, add a layer of the purple whipped cream
Continue these steps until you’ve reached the top of your trifle dish, ending with the whipped cream
To the top add more crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, some chocolate jimmies sprinkles, and more eyes
