Red Wine Poached Pears

I absolutely LOVE to create an elegant looking dessert this time of the year. But- just because it looks fancy doesn’t mean it takes all day to create! This SUPER easy poached pear is loaded with so much flavor you will want to make it all year long!

Ingredients

Scale

Poached Pears:

4 pears (either Bosc or Anjou)

1 bottle red wine (I like using a Cabernet Sauvignon)

1/2 orange, sliced

1/2 lemon, sliced

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 cinnamon stick

1 vanilla bean, split in half

Small piece of ginger

Almond Crumble:

1 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup sliced almonds

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

4 tablespoons melted butter

Cinnamon Whipped Cream:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

In a large saucepan add the red wine, sliced orange, sliced lemon, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and ginger piece. Stir and let it come up to a boil

Once the red wine is boiling, turn down to a simmer, peel the pears, cut about a 1/2 inch off the bottom (so they can sit upright), and add them to the mixture

Let them simmer for about 20 minutes, turning them every 5 minutes or so so that they cook evenly

In the meantime preheat your oven to 425 degrees F

Once the pears are cooked carefully remove and sit on a plate. Let the liquid continue to simmer another 15 minutes to reduce

While the liquid is simmering make the crumble by combining all of the ingredients in a bowl. Put on a parchment lined sheet tray and bake 6-8 minutes until slightly golden brown

Once the crumble is done and the liquid is reduced the final step is the whipped cream. In a bowl with an electric mixer add all of the ingredients and beat until fluffy, yet not stiff. One step below a whipped cream. Watch the video if you need help!

To plate add a big dollop of the whipped cream, nestle the poached pear in the middle, drizzle with the reduced liquid, and a good sprinkle of the almond crumble. Thats it! A fancy, yet amazingly delicious, dessert in about 30 minutes! Happy holidays!
