Frosted Peppermint Brownie Cookies

These decadent, dense, delicious brownie cookies have just the right amount of peppermint to make them feel extra festive. These frosted festive cookies will go fast, so you might want to double the recipe so Santa can have some!

  • 1/2 cup (4 oz) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (6 oz) good quality semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs + 1 egg yolk
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint

Peppermint Frosting

  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Crushed candy canes to sprinkle on top


  1. In a microwave safe bowl add the chocolate chips, chopped baking chocolate, and butter. Microwave it on high in 30 seconds increments, stirring between until completely melted and smooth. I only had to do it 3 times! Set it aside and let it cool for 15 minutes
  2. In a bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt and set aside
  3. In another bowl using an electric mixer, whip together the eggs, egg yolk, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add in the vanilla extract, peppermint extract, and chocolate and stir to combine
  4. Add the dry ingredients in and mix together until combined. Cover the dough and let it chill for about 45 minutes until it has set up. This makes it easier to roll into balls
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F
  6. Scoop out about 2 1/2 tablespoons of dough, roll it into a ball, place on a parchment lined sheet tray, and put into the preheated oven
  7. Let them cook about 8-11 minutes. Take them out of the oven and carefully press down with your hands to flatten them and let them cool while you make the frosting
  8. In a bowl with an electric mixer mix together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, cream, and peppermint extract until smooth, about 5 minutes
  9. Spread a good amount of frosting onto the cookies and sprinkle the tops with crushed candy canes
  10. That’s it! A delicious cookie everyone will love, especially Santa!
