Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 oz semi sweet chocolate
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- Peppermint Schnapps ( about 1 oz for each drink)
- whipped cream for garnish (optional)
- grated chocolate for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Down here in Florida we're going through a real cold streak. I mean, it's like 65 degrees here and that is totally unacceptable! Sorry, had to rub it in. It is common Florida knowledge that anything under 70 degrees allows: boots, sweaters, the occasional scarf, and hot beverages. I'm a sucker for hot chocolate with fresh whipped cream. Then you add the peppermint schnapps to it and that takes things to a whole new level. I mean, it's good. Real good. Put up with 65 degree weather kind of good. Ok, now I like my hot chocolate really chocolately but if it is too much for you feel free to lower down to 2 oz of the semi sweet chocolate. In a pot over medium high heat add the milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, semi sweet chocolate, sugar, and stir all together. Let come up to a simmer until all the chocolate is melted. In your mugs add as much or as little peppermint schnapps and top off with the hot chocolate. I like to add some fresh whipped cream and grated chocolate to the top before I serve. Even this will defrost the coldest of cold people. Enjoy!
